The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand has been suspended for the next two days following continuous heavy rainfall across the state, which has significantly increased the risk of landslides and flash floods along the pilgrimage routes. The decision was taken by the state administration after weather agencies issued alerts predicting further intense rainfall in the Himalayan region. Pilgrims have been advised not to begin or continue their journey until conditions improve.
According to officials, several stretches of roads leading to the four sacred shrines—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—have become vulnerable due to falling debris, waterlogging, and unstable hill slopes. Rescue teams, disaster response personnel, and local authorities have been placed on high alert to ensure the safety of stranded pilgrims and residents. Road restoration work is also underway in affected areas wherever weather conditions permit.
The Uttarakhand government has appealed to devotees to strictly follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during the suspension period. Pilgrims already in the region have been requested to stay at designated safe locations until further instructions are issued. Authorities said the situation will be reviewed after two days, and the Yatra will resume only if weather conditions become favourable and the routes are declared safe for travel.
