China’s exports jumped 25% year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from 23.9% growth in July and matching market expectations. The surge was driven by strong overseas demand for high-tech products, semiconductors, electric vehicles and other technology-related goods.

Exports of high-tech products rose 42.9% in dollar terms, with semiconductor exports more than doubling in value. Strong demand linked to the global AI infrastructure boom has provided a major boost to Chinese manufacturers and exporters.
The export boom comes as China continues to face weaker domestic consumption and investment. Imports also rose sharply by 28.2%, while China’s trade surplus reached around $119.1 billion in August, highlighting the growing importance of overseas demand to the country’s economic growth.
