The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad as relentless heavy rainfall and strong winds continue to batter the region. On Monday, waterlogging across several parts of Mumbai severely affected daily life, slowing road traffic and disrupting public transport. Long-distance train services to Pune were suspended, while suburban train operations on a section in Raigad were also halted. The IMD has forecast more intense rainfall throughout the day.

The relentless rain has significantly affected transportation services. Several long-distance train services between Mumbai and Pune were suspended, while suburban train operations on a section in Raigad were temporarily halted due to adverse weather conditions. Road traffic also slowed considerably as multiple low-lying areas witnessed waterlogging, creating difficulties for commuters across the city and neighbouring districts.
In a tragic incident, at least six people lost their lives and one person was injured after a three-storey chawl collapsed in Mumbai’s Mankhurd area on Sunday night amid heavy rainfall. In view of the continuing downpour and safety concerns, authorities declared a holiday for all government, private, and civic-run schools and colleges in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, and Palghar on Monday. Emergency teams remain on alert as officials closely monitor the evolving weather situation.
