The Amarnath Yatra resumed on Friday after remaining suspended for six days due to heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities allowed the pilgrimage to restart after weather conditions improved and the routes were declared safe for travel. More than 6,000 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu in a convoy of buses under tight security to continue their journey towards the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine.
Officials said that road restoration work, weather assessments, and safety inspections were completed before the Amarnath Yatra was reopened. Security forces have been deployed in large numbers along both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes, while disaster response teams and medical units remain on standby to assist pilgrims if required. The administration has also advised devotees to follow official weather updates and travel only through designated routes to ensure their safety.
The annual Amarnath Yatra is one of India’s most significant Hindu pilgrimages, attracting thousands of devotees from across the country every year. Despite the temporary suspension caused by bad weather, authorities remain confident that the pilgrimage will continue smoothly with enhanced security and continuous monitoring of weather conditions. Pilgrims have expressed relief and enthusiasm as they resumed their spiritual journey to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.
