Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting in New Delhi on Friday, September 11, ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit. The Kremlin has confirmed that the two leaders will begin discussions with key bilateral issues on the agenda.
Trade and economic cooperation are expected to feature prominently in the talks, alongside defence and energy partnerships. Discussions could also include Russia’s proposed cooperation on new nuclear power projects and India’s interest in advanced defence technology, including the Su-57 fighter aircraft.
The meeting comes as India hosts the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. The talks are expected to provide another opportunity for the two countries to strengthen their long-standing strategic partnership and discuss major regional and global developments.
