An avalanche struck the base camp of Himlung Himal in Nepal, killing two people and leaving ten others missing, according to officials. The incident occurred in the mountainous region as climbers and support staff were staying at the camp.
Rescue teams have been deployed to search for those still unaccounted for. Difficult weather conditions, heavy snow and the remote location are making rescue operations challenging.
Authorities are continuing search and rescue efforts while assessing the situation at the base camp. Further details on the identities and nationalities of those affected are expected as the operation progresses.
