PU Student Allegedly Kills Father and Sister, Injures Mother in Karnataka

A shocking family tragedy unfolded in Karnataka’s Koppal district, where a second-year Pre-University (PU) student allegedly stabbed his father and elder sister to death and critically injured his mother. The incident took place on Saturday night in Hosa Ayodhya village of Gangavathi taluk. According to police, the accused also attempted to harm himself by slashing his neck after the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ballari.

The deceased have been identified as Venkatanaidu, a cook by profession, and his daughter Pragathi. Venkatanaidu’s wife, Sowjanya, suffered severe injuries and remains hospitalized. Police said that after dinner, the family was asleep in one room when the attack occurred. Around 10:30 p.m., Venkatanaidu’s father heard screams from the room. When there was no response, he and neighbors broke open the door and found the three victims lying in a pool of blood. Pragathi was declared dead at the scene, while Venkatanaidu later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Investigators are still trying to determine the exact motive behind the incident. However, police are examining claims that the student’s parents had recently objected to his excessive online gaming habits, which may have led to tensions within the family. A case has been registered at the Gangavathi Rural Police Station, and authorities have launched a detailed investigation. Superintendent of Police Ram L. Arasiddi stated that the motive remains unclear and that all possible angles are being explored.
