Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Jahangir Khan was arrested near the India-Nepal border on Monday in connection with an alleged extortion case. According to police, Khan had been evading arrest for several days while law enforcement agencies investigated multiple criminal complaints against him. The arrest was carried out during a coordinated operation by the West Bengal Police after tracking his movements across the region.

Khan, a prominent political figure from West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, was taken into custody following an extensive search operation. Investigators said he had been absconding since several cases were registered against him and his associates. Police officials stated that he would be produced before a court and questioned further as part of the ongoing investigation. His arrest is being viewed as a major breakthrough for authorities who had been attempting to locate him for days.
The TMC leader is facing allegations related to extortion, intimidation, assault, threats, and poll-related violence. Several complaints were reportedly filed by local residents and political opponents, leading to multiple investigations. While police continue to probe the allegations, officials said further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation and evidence collected during the inquiry.
